HOW CAN YOU TELL IF YOUR SKINCARE IS WORKING?

Skincare
Whatever you read online about skincare and whatever advice you receive, remember to listen to what your skin is telling you. Unfortunately, your skin can sometimes seem to speak an unfamiliar language, and listening to it can be harder than it sounds. How do you know whether your skincare routine is right for you and whether it works? And how long should you wait for results?

Before answering these questions, remember that different types of products have different assessment criteria. Understanding them can make your journey towards healthier skin easier.

RESULTS YOU CAN SEE STRAIGHT AWAY

In today’s fast-paced world, we are used to moving quickly, so it is natural to want immediate skincare results. Although skincare requires patience, some products can quickly show whether they suit your skin:
  • Cleansers: when switching to a new facial cleanser, watch for dryness, stinging or sensitivity over the next few days. If these changes do not occur, you can continue using the cleanser!
  • Products with SPF protection: one golden rule applies when choosing facial sunscreen: texture is king. Because sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, it is important to choose a texture you enjoy using.

RESULTS THAT TAKE TWO TO FOUR WEEKS!

  • Facial moisturisers: a moisturiser suited to your skin type helps maintain hydration throughout the day. However, allow approximately 1–2 weeks to assess whether it suits your skin. If your skin no longer feels short of moisture after applying the cream and your skin barrier feels healthy, you can conclude that the cream suits you well.
  • Acid exfoliants: help smooth skin texture and may reduce the appearance of fine lines and brighten dull skin. Allow a complete skincare cycle, approximately 1 month, to see results. You should then notice an improvement and know that you are on the right track. Further improvements in hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles take longer.

RESULTS THAT TAKE AT LEAST ONE MONTH

It is natural for more significant concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, to take longer to assess.

  • Fine lines (approximately 1 month): sometimes a facial moisturiser and consistent use of SPF protection are enough to produce a visible improvement.
  • Deeper wrinkles (approximately 2 months or longer).
  • Pigmentation (2 to 6 months): SPF protection is important when addressing facial or body pigmentation. With consistent use, you may see improvement in less than 6 months.

SUMMARY

Different types of products have different criteria to consider, so pay attention to the signals your skin sends. Remember that consistency and patience matter when addressing skin concerns.
